On 29th October 2014, the Scaling Up Nutrition Civil Society Alliance in Kenya (SUN CSA) held a three-day nutrition and food security advocacy training in Vihiga County for all Kisumu County Nutrition Officers working for both the government and NGOs. The training that was coordinated by Kenya Red Cross
Society (KRCS) and World Vision Kenya brought together different stakeholders including county
leaders, government officers and civil societies. Key presentations included status of nutrition,
County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) and budgets. The training was supported by the Ministry of Health team, among them the County Nutrition Officer. The Member of Kisumu County Assembly and Vice Chair of Health Service Committee Fairda Ahmed Salim told the participants that the government had put in place plans to improve nutrition and pledged support to ensure better nutrition indicators for the county.
- Involve nutrition regulatory bodies in the implementation of SUN activities.
- Support Kisumu County to develop a Health Policy.
- Mobilise civil societies among them HERAF, KELIN, PELUM Kenya to join SUN CSA.
- SUN CSA to partner with BBC Media Action and promote nutrition issues via Sema Kenya Programme.
